Privacy

PlainSpeak is a desktop app. It has no accounts and no analytics, and the people who make it never see your writing. This page lists everything it sends over the internet, and where.

Your writing

Scanning, and checking figures against your original, happen on your computer. When you rewrite, PlainSpeak sends your text to the AI provider you chose in Settings, using your own key: OpenRouter, Anthropic, OpenAI, or an OpenAI-compatible endpoint you set. That provider's own privacy terms apply to what you send it. Nothing goes to PlainSpeak.

Two features run only on OpenRouter, and only when OpenRouter is the provider you chose. The audit sends your rewritten text to the two models it picks. Find sources sends each claim you ask about to a search model. With any other provider, both are off, and neither your text nor your key goes to OpenRouter.

Links you import

When you fetch a web page into PlainSpeak, it asks that page's website for the page. If that fails, it asks a reader service, r.jina.ai, to fetch the page instead. The reader service receives the page's address, not your writing.

What stays on your computer

Your API key, your settings, your voices and templates, your licence key and your history are stored on your computer, in PlainSpeak's own data folder. Your history holds the drafts and rewrites you made; you can clear it in the app.

Your licence

Your licence key is checked on your computer, with no sign-in and no call home. If you paste a purchase code instead of a key, PlainSpeak sends that code once to its key service, which checks it with Polar and returns your key.

Buying

Polar handles payment as the merchant of record, so your card details, address and email go to Polar, not to PlainSpeak. PlainSpeak's key service keeps your licence key, your order number and the email address on the order, so it can show you your key and help you if you lose it.

Updates

PlainSpeak checks GitHub for new versions when it starts and every few hours while it is open, and downloads them from there. GitHub sees the request, as it would for any download.

This website

This site sets no cookies and runs no analytics. The scan on the front page runs in your browser and sends nothing anywhere. The site is served by Cloudflare, which keeps standard request logs.
